A nomination is not a win

Keep award category, nomination, and result as three separate facts.

Identify the award category

A film can win an Academy Award without winning Best Picture. A performance award, a technical award, and a picture award refer to different achievements.

Our prompts identify Best Picture when that is the relevant category. Do not replace the named category with the broader phrase “an Oscar-winning film” in your memory.

Build a precise record

For each film you study, record category, year, and whether it won. A small accurate table is more useful than a long list headed only “Oscar films”.

When a film is both nominated and wins, it can fit a nomination prompt as well as a winner prompt. That overlap is expected. It does not mean every nomination is a win.

Review near misses

If you confuse two films from the same season, check the Academy’s record and write a sentence distinguishing them. The point is to repair the relationship, not to memorize the game’s private score list.

A correct historical fact may still be missing from an answer bank. Report the prompt and source if that happens; keep nomination and result distinct in the report.
