Attach the person to the prize
Award category and award year are more useful than a vague memory of fame.
Read the named distinction
A Nobel Prize category is a specific award, not a general label for an accomplished person. Literature, physics, chemistry, medicine, and peace have different recipient sets.
The economics distinction is the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. Our questions identify the economic-sciences category explicitly rather than silently treating all distinctions as identical.
Use the award year
A laureate’s birth year or the date of a discovery is not their award year. Keep these in separate columns when studying.
Our initial award questions use individual recipients and source records through 2025. Organizations are excluded from person-name prompts, even though some organizations have received the Peace Prize.
Be careful with countries
Birthplace, citizenship, and institutional affiliation are different relationships. A country associated with a person’s career does not establish all three.
For any place-based question, read the exact field it requests. If a record uses a historical place name and a present-day one, do not merge them without retaining the distinction.
